Hollywood is undoubtedly synonymous with films. When people think of significant films, stars, and all the allure that surrounds it, they assume Hollywood. Its impact resulted in the Indian film industry's moniker, "Bollywood". History is stuffed with accounts of stars who dreamt of making it huge, and thus relocated to L.A.
It's pretty easy to get drawn into thinking that the only method to get involved in the
film industry will be to move to Hollywood. Occasionally, it will appear sensible. Nevertheless, something to keep in mind is that many people relocates to Hollywood, which means you can find a lot more rivalry for the work that exist !
There are plenty of cities across the country with significant film industries. A lot of US TV programs like the Stargate franchise, Battlestar Galactica and also Smallville are shot in Vancouver. Toronto has a lot of shows, as also does New York. Any big city will have some amount of industry. Beyond The United States, you can find employment in areas including London, and of course India.
Even if you do not live in one of those cities, it is possible to still come across locations to find expertise and employment. Do not forget that when filming large productions with uncommon scenery, the production will turn to another country to shoot a number of scenes. Some pieces from the new Star Wars episodes were shot in North Africa; The Count of Monte Cristo was shot in The island of malta; Lord of the Rings was shot in New Zealand. In addition, you can find amateur and indie productions just about everywhere.
To put it briefly, you'll find employment anywhere in varying quantities. Even so, if you want to build a career, you clearly have to be someplace which has a large amount of work and plenty of options. You're only likely to be able to support yourself completely if you are in a location like L.A. or Vancouver which has adequate work; although you will find work in smaller cities, it's improbable there will be enough to keep you employed all year long. Although you might not have to relocate to Hollywood, you may have to move someplace. It all is determined by where you live. Spend time researching the local film commission, if there is one, and try to send networking letters or otherwise get in touch with professionals in your area to ask for advice.
Networking is incredibly important in this industry, so if you do manage to get in contact with professionals, that's very useful! Building up a network takes time, of course, so one point to note is that if you do move to a new city, it will take time to make the contacts required to land that first job in the film industry. And of course, once you have made the network, it's very hard to move away, because you'd be losing all of that hard work!
